The Gottesman Hall of Planet Earth is a permanent hall at the American Museum of Natural History. Updates to the hall were made to reflect contemporary climate science and the urgent nature of the climate crisis. The Hall update included the installation of 36 high resolution screens displaying up to date data visualization of climate and natural disasters. The lower portion of this display is dedicated to interactives that cover “How Climate Works,” “[Our] Warming World,” and the “Consequences of Climate Change”. In addition to Climate Change this exhibit includes a section on paleoclimate (the study of past climate), which establishes the foundation on which our understanding of climate change is based. The exhibit includes a 3 meter long model of the GISP2 ice core. Visitors are able to “scan” the ice core using an interactive display to reveal trends in global temperature, CO2, and sea level rise.
